An Unforgettable Day
on the Water

“We highly recommend going fly fishing with Katelyn and Aubree! They were personable, patient, calm, and incredibly knowledgeable. They taught us casting techniques, helped set up our rods, lines, and flies, and were always encouraging throughout the day. Their excitement each time we caught a fish made the experience even more memorable.

My husband is a veteran with PTSD related to his military service, and spending six hours on the lake was incredibly calming for him. Aubree’s peaceful demeanor helped him feel at ease, while Katelyn’s enthusiasm and encouragement brought a smile to his face every time he landed a fish.

The trip was relaxing, fun, and educational, and we can’t wait to go again to continue learning. If you’re looking for an unforgettable day on the water with exceptional guides, we can’t recommend Katelyn and Aubree enough!”

Calming the Noise

Living with PTSD is more than having bad memories. It can fill your mind with constant noise, fear, anxiety, and thoughts that never seem to slow down. Even when everything around you is quiet, your mind often isn’t. It can be exhausting, and at times it feels like you can never truly relax.

For a long time, I thought that was just something I had to live with. Then I learned that healing doesn’t always come from making the noise disappear. Sometimes it comes from finding something that is louder than the anxiety in a healthy way, something that gives your mind a place to rest.

That opportunity came when I was invited on a fly fishing trip.

Standing in the river, surrounded by mountains and the sound of moving water, I noticed something different. For the first time in a long while, my attention wasn’t on my anxiety or my surroundings. Instead, I was completely focused on one thing: watching the water, timing my cast, and placing the fly exactly where I wanted it. For those moments, the constant noise in my mind became quieter.

Katelyn and Aubree patiently taught me everything I needed to know. They showed me how to cast a fly rod, explained the equipment, and encouraged me every step of the way. More than teaching me how to fish, they introduced me to a hobby that has become a healthy way to manage the challenges of PTSD.

I don’t expect fly fishing to erase what I’ve experienced. PTSD doesn’t simply disappear. But I have learned that there are moments of peace, and those moments matter. Every cast reminds me to focus on what is right in front of me instead of the thoughts that try to pull me away.

I will always be grateful to Katelyn and Aubree for taking the time to invest in me. They didn't just teach me a new hobby, they helped me discover something that allows me to calm the noise.

If sharing my experience helps even one veteran or one person struggling with PTSD realize that healing can begin with one small step, then telling this story is worth it.

A Birthday Fish

“For my son’s 10th birthday, he got a fly fishing rod because he has been OBSESSED with fishing his entire life!

Since I have absolutely zero fishing experience, we hired Katelyn to take us out for a day and teach him how to use it.
To say she was amazing would be an understatement. I think he honestly found a new best friend in her!

She made the experience so enjoyable for me too, just the parent tagging along. 🤪 She made sure we were prepared ahead of time, letting us know exactly what to bring and what to expect at the lake. She had already scouted out some great spots and guided him every step of the way.

From gearing up and choosing locations to picking the right fly and teaching him different casting techniques, the list goes on and on. Even though he was still young, she was incredibly patient, kept him engaged, and maintained a positive attitude all day long. She was his biggest cheerleader from start to finish!

He walked away not only having caught his first fish on his new rod, but feeling like an absolute king.

And then, after the trip was over, she went above and beyond yet again. She mailed him a card with the exact fly he used to catch his first fish. He still keeps it at home as a special treasure.

Now all of my other kids are completely jealous and can't wait for their turn to go fly fishing with Katelyn!”

“Fishing with River Less Traveled was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Both owners are smart, patient, and deeply knowledgeable teachers who match techniques and gear to every skill level. Their enthusiasm is contagious, and thanks to their expert guidance on both lakes and streams, I successfully caught trout multiple times. I cannot recommend them enough for beginners and experienced anglers alike.”
